1894 (June) envelope to Mafeking bearing 1881 ½d. vermilion block of four tied by fine strikes of "390" barred oval, underpaid with large manuscript "4d" in back ink (double the deficiency), the reverse bearing Mafeking "A" (9.6) arrival c.d.s.; roughly opened at top. A very early date, the barred oval predated Proud's book by six months and was posted before the arrival of the Mochudi c.d.s. British Bechuanaland stamps used in the Protectorate. Photo
