James I (1603-1625), Third Coinage, Halfcrowns (2), 24 June 1620 - 8 June 1621, Tower, (m.m.) • IACOBVS D .' G .' MAG .' BRIT .' FRAN .' ET • HIB .' REX • King on horseback right, crowned rose on caparison, plain ground-line, rev. (m.m.) QVÆ DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET, square-topped and garnished shield, bird-headed harp, 14.58g [225.00grns], 8h, m.m. rose (North 2122; S.2666A), the obverse legend 'BRIT' spelling a distinctive feature of Second Coinage issues, but the reverse bears a bird-headed harp synonymous with the latter specie, and thus the obverse is an evidently re-purposed die; another, 4 July 1623 - 17 June 1624, with grassy ground-line, 14.75g [227.63grns], 8h, m.m. lys (North 2122; S.2666), the second wiped and with scratch to horse's head, otherwise toned, about very fine, the first with some metal stressing and more softly struck, a bolder fine (2)
