D.C.M. London Gazette 22 July 1943. The citation states:
'For conspicuous gallantry and determination at the QUADI AKARIT on 6 Apl 1943.
Pte Elliot's section had taken part in the counter-attack against the enemy just before dark and had occupied a forward position well in advance of our line. At 2300 hrs. the section was attached by an enemy patrol of not less than 25 men. Although all his section were killed wounded, Pte Elliot continued to hold his slit trench and to threw grenades at the enemy. When relived by his Coy Comd shortly afterwards, Pte Elliot was still engaging the enemy and it is known that he had killed 6 of them.
By his courageous and determined action in face of overwhelming numbers, Pte Elliot held this post single handed until assistance came.'
