The original recommendation states:

'This rating has acted in the capacity of L.C.M. Coxswain and Regulating Petty Officer for the Flotilla since its inception. He has shown quite outstanding qualities of organisation and devotion to duty under most trying conditions. He has taken part in Operation Torch N.E.A. and N.E.D. and it is difficult to adequately express the value of his services before and after the commencement of operations in Algeria.'

Arthur Wilkinson was decorated for his services in the 52nd A.L.C. Flotilla, this unit was in action during Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa. Wilkinson received his award at a Buckingham Palace investiture held on 29 February 1944. This unit was later involved in the D-Day Landings and Wilkinson doubtless saw action there; sold together with copied research including an original recommendation.
