A scarce Second World War and post-War campaign group of five awarded to Master Navigator W. M. Bond, Royal Air Force, who flew operationally in Beaufighters of No. 45 Squadron in Malaya in 1949-50

Walter Maurice Bond was born in Westminster, London on 6 July 1924 and enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in September 1942. Called up in August 1943, he remained employed in the U.K. until the war's end, when he gained a permanent appointment in the Royal Air Force.

Having then qualified as a Navigator, Bond was posted to No. 45 Squadron in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya, in which he witnessed active service in the unit's Beaufighters in the period September 1948 to March 1949; his General Service Medal was issued in October 1951.

He subsequently served in No. 31 Squadron in Germany in 1953-54, in which latter year he was advanced to Flight Sergeant, followed by appointments in No. 81 Squadron in 1954-55 and No. 167 Squadron in 1955-56.

Promoted to Master Navigator in December 1960 - whilst serving in No. 144 Squadron - Bond was awarded his L.S. and G.C. Medal in August 1961 and served in Labuan in Malaysia during the Borneo operations of 1964-65. Having then obtained his discharge in November 1968, he found employment as a security guard and he died in Maidstone, Kent in December 2005; sold with copied service record and verification for his medals and clasps.
