China 1856-60, 2 clasps, Fatshan 1857, Canton 1857; Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Wm. Williams. Chf. Btmn. in Chge. H.M. Coast Gd.), post neatly repaired on this last, good very fine (2)
William Williams was born at Ballintoy, County Antrim in 1833 and joined the Royal Navy in 1853 (No. 2275 & 68245). During the Second Opium War, he served in the Sybille at the Battle of Fatshan Creek and at Canton in 1857. His Medal was sent in July 1862.
He thence joined the Coast Guard in July 1858 and served at Saltburn Station until March 1864 and then at Whitby from August 1864-March 1888. Williams was shore pensioned in August 1888.
