Three: Lieutenant and Adjutant G. Rogers, Rifle Brigade, who died in service in India on 4 August 1865

Crimea 1854-56, 2 clasps, Alma, Sebastopol (Quartr. Mastr. G. Rogers 2nd Battn. Rifle Brigade) contemporary engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (Qr. Mr. G. Rogers. 2nd Bn. Rifle Bde.); Turkish Crimea 1855, British issue, unnamed, fitted with an ‘Indian Mutiny’ style suspension; together with a Rifle Brigade Officers’ Pouch Belt Plate, silver, 1857-68 period, some light edge bruising, very fine (4)

George Rogers was serving with the Rifle Brigade during the Battle of Alma, where the 2nd Battalion were the first men over the River advancing on the Russian positions on the Heights. He was appointed Quartermaster with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade on 14 September 1855 while serving in the trenches before Sebastopol.

In this rank he further served through the Indian Mutiny, including the siege and capture of Lucknow and in numerous actions during the Oude campaign. Appointed Ensign and Adjutant of the 2nd Battalion on 30 March 1860 he was further promoted Lieutenant on 18 April 1865. Rogers died at Mussoorie in the Himalayas on 4 August 1865; sold together with copied research.
