Lucania, Velia, AR Nomos, struck c. 340-334 BC, head of Athena right, wearing crested helmet decorated with Griffin, rev. lion advancing right, PH above, TH below, YELITON in exergue, 7.45g (Mangieri 124 (dies); SNG ANS 1307 (dies); Williams 295m (dies); Historia Numorum Italy 1287), a proud and detailed strike with a lovely, imposing portrait in impeccable style, darkly toned and residually lustrous, some softening to details on reverse with slight die-flaws evident upon the fields, still good very fine or better
