The 1955 O.B.E. group of five awarded to Wing Commander A. E. Davey, Royal Air Force, who served as head of the Equipment Branch at R.A.F. Cranwell in the 1950s

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 2nd Type, Military Division, Officer's (O.B.E.) breast Badge, silver-gilt and enamel; Defence & War Medals 1939-45 with M.I.D. oak leaf; Coronation 1953; Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (158686. Sgt. A. E. Davey. R.A.F.), light wear and contact marks overall, otherwise very fine (5)

Albert Edward Davey joined the Royal Flying Corps as a Boy Mechanic on 7 January 1918. Promoted to Sergeant on 5 January 1936, Warrant Officer on 12 September 1938, he was commissioned to Flying Officer on 18 September 1939 attached to the Equipment Branch. Davey was further promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 24 September 1941 and was posted to Cranwell towards the end of his career as the Senior Equipment Officer, additionally serving as the President of the Officers' Mess Committee. The Duke of Edinburgh visited Cranwell on the 28 July 1953 and he was presented to the Duke during the visit.
