(x) Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, St. Sebastian (Thomas Dowal.), good very fine

Provenance:
Glendining's, November 1807.

Thomas Dowal is confirmed upon the roll as a Landsman aboard the Revolutionaire at St. Sebastian.

She was a vessel of the Seina-class, launched for the French Navy in May 1794, only to be captured in October 1794. She would enter Royal Navy in April 1795 and turned back onto those who had laid her down, including earning three clasps for the Naval General Service Medal. Dowal was present on 27 August 1813, when boats of the squadron made a successful attack on the island of Santa Clara, at the mouth of the harbour of Saint Sebastian. Revolutionnaire provided seamen to man a Battery of 24-pounder guns from Surveillante hauled up to the top of the island. The Battery silenced the enemy guns.
