Silver Identity Bracelet, (17779 Sgt Higgs P. L. C.Of.E. Worc. Regt), engraved naming, toned, very fine

Philip Leslie Higgs was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire on 20 May 1895.

It is possible that he had previous military experience, as the rank first awarded him on his medal index card is Lance Sergeant. Higgs entered WW1 in the Balkan theatre of war on 4 October 1915, as more troops were shipped out to the Gallipoli peninsula in the closing stages of the campaign and was posted to either the 4th or 9th Battalion. At some point, he was promoted Sergeant in the 4th Battalion.

Moving to France in the spring of 1916, the 4th Battalion were engaged in the battles of the Somme: the battle of Albert, the attack on Beaumont Hamel, and the fighting around Aveluy and the Transloy Ridges. In 1917, the 4th Battalion was active in the battle of Langemarck in 1917 and were active in the Lys the following year, remaining in that area until September. Their next main action was to be at Ypres where they were involved in the retaking of Gheluvelt. In October 1918 they saw action at the Battle of Courtrai and then joined in the final advance into Flanders.

Philip survived the war and he married Daisy G. Jones between October and December 1932 in Stourbridge. Daisy died aged 69 in summer 1965. Philip died aged 75, between April and June 1970 - both in the district of Merioneth South, in the county of Merionethshire, North Wales.
