Japan, Empire, Second World War Good Luck Flag, (yosegaki hinomaru), with multiple signatures or invocations to the white ground, two stamped marks, 104 x 70cm, good condition overall
A traditional gift for Japanese servicemen deployed during the military campaigns of the Empire of Japan, most notably during the Second World War. The flag was typically signed by friends and family, often with short messages wishing the soldier victory, safety and good luck. Many went into action wrapped around the body of the owner and thus are found in worn and damaged condition.
