'After the service, the Commanding Officer (Lieut. Cl. W. Thornton) presented the Good Conduct medals to three men of the battalion who had been awarded them. The Colonel expressed his high appreciation of the conduct of these men, whom he had known ever since he had been in the regiment. He had no doubt that they had been justly earned, and hoped that they would live long to wear this honourable distinction. The medals were then pinned on the breasts of Sergeant Tucker, Private Young and Private Giles'. The Berkshire Chronicle, 10 June 1905.
