Daniel Kerr Morrison - or Danny to his friends and comrades - was born in 1911 in Scotland and was a long-served Colonial Police Officer. His daughter wrote:
'My father, Danny, as he was known, was a tall, quiet, unassuming man of strong morals. He was a Senior Inspector of the Nyasaland Police when I was born and I believe he was liked and respected by all he came in contact with. Danny hardly ever raised his voice but would get a certain look in his eye and a quiet tut-tut of the tongue and this seemed enough to show his disapproval...
My parents had a great deal of respect towards each other and always stood side-by-side in times of joy, sadness or trouble. My father was the gentle Great-Dane and my mother, the Fox Terrier. Growing up with Danny and Gerty as my parents, I felt safe, secure and indeed very much loved.'
A biography is offered:
' In 1925 started an apprenticeship as a shipwright at John Browns Shipyards. Worked as a shipwright until made unemployed in 1930.
Joined Palestine Police in 1931. Served in Jerusalem, Jaffa,
Petah Tiqvah, Nablus, Jenin, Haifa and in Lydda where he was attached to the Royal Engineers on the job of railway protection. He was a member of the police party which quelled the 1933 Jaffa riots and in 1938 he opened a police post within the al-Haram alSharif compound area. In 1940 he was transferred to the Nyasaland Police on promotion as an Assistant Inspector of Police. In 1962 retired from the post of Senior Superintendent in
the Nyasaland Police and returned to the United Kingdom. In 1963 emigrated to South Australia. Married in 1942, 2 daughters. Died 3 December 1994 in Adelaide, South Australia.'
His ashes were scattered at Ku Chawe on the Zomba Plateau and his papers were donated to the Middle East Archives at St Anthony's College, Oxford.
