M.B.E. London Gazette 7 June 1951, the official recommendation states:

'No. 1 Engineers Store's Depot is manned by a mixed force of 3000 comprising R.E., R.P.C., a sprinkling of other armies a with British and Polish civilians. R.S.M. Pavey has been the Regimental Sergeant Major for the past four years and has maintained exemplary enthusiasm and drive throughout the period and by the exercise of sterling qualities of leadership and unremitting hard work he has been largely and personally responsible for raising and maintaining the standard of morale and discipline during his service at the Depot.

It is thanks to his tact and good sense that the civilians and military work so well together. Owing to the shortage of officers, R.S.M. Pavey has acted as Assistant Adjutant and Training Officer in addition to his R.S.M. duties and has fully justified the trust placed upon him'.

Henry James Pavey was wounded in the Middle East on 23 January 1941 when he was serving with 54 Field Company, Royal Engineers. He later died in Australia.
