Defence Medal 1939-45, Imperial Service Medal, E.R.II. (James Frederick Nicholson), in its Royal Mint case of issue, sold together with an original 'Air Officer Commanding in Chief's Commendation', nearly extremely fine (2)
I.S.M. London Gazette 21 March 1975.
The recommendation for the commendation states:
'Mr Nicholson has been employed at No 5 MU RAF Kemble since 11 September 1940. He has proved himself to be a very capable and willing worker who sets an example to those working with him and obtains a high standard of output. For the past 7 years he has been employed in the Fuel Tank Bay where he has gained considerable knowledge of varied types of tanks.
With the introduction of the Gnat programme Mr Nicholson produced his own serving schedule which is now an accepted procedure. He has worked on numerous ideas and improved on testing techniques to his own advantage and that of the Unit, and as a result has accelerated tank output.
For his loyalty and devotion to duty I strongly recommend him for a Commendation by the Air Officer Commanding in Chief.'
James Frederick Nicholson is noted as a Craftsman with the Army and Air Force Department of the Ministry of Defence in the London Gazette.
