Frederick R. Koch served with the Ceylon Light Infantry during the Second World War, during which the unit was deployed to the Seychelles and Cocos Islands; escorted Italian Prisoners of War from the Middle East to Ceylon; and later escorted Japanese Prisoners of War from Ceylon to India. Koch continued to serve after the Second World War, and was awarded the Efficiency Medal in 1950 (Ceylon Government Gazette 8 December 1950), and the Ceylon Armed Forces Inauguration Medal in 1954.
