Archibald Turner Mulholland was born at Rothsay, Bute on 12 July 1876, the son of John and Sarah Mulholland. Enlisting with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders he joined the Army Reserve in 1911 and was mobilised for serve on the outbreak of the Great War.
Posted to the 10th Battalion he entered the war in France on 12 August 1915 where they went into action on 26 September, the First Day of the Battle of Loos. They joined the offensive with the 27th Brigade, initially they advanced against Pekin Trench which they captured without opposition.
Unfortunately, while they consolidated for an advance against the Fosse 8 bunker German artillery narrowed down on their position. Meanwhile an infantry counter-attack drove them back through the trench, bombing out the Scottish troops with stick grenades.
Mulholland was listed as wounded and missing at first but later confirmed to have been killed in action. He is commemorated upon the Loos Memorial; sold together with copied research.
Further entitled to the British War Medal 1914-20.
