(x) Assorted South African Second World War Medals

Atlantic Star (66596 P. R. M. Furber). War Medal 1939-45 (68658 J. R. Mackintosh; 67237 D. N. Kemack). Africa Service Medal (10801 (SAP) J. H. Nienaber). Pair: I. G. Bathgate War Medal 1939-45; Africa Service Medal both named (211777 I. G. Bathgate), mounted as worn. With a R.N.V.R. (S.A.) Inter Sport 1926 prize medal, engraved on the reverse (A.B. S. M. Sparks.), generally very fine (6)

Patrick Roland Furber was born on 26 April 1921, he was later promoted to Temporary Sub Lieutenant on 24 December 1942 and was released from service on 1 December 1945. His full medal entitlement was a 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star, War Medal 1939-45, Africa Service Medal, and was further entitled to a Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve L.S. & G.C. on 9 November 1945.

James Ross Mackintosh was born on 27 April 1911 and enlisted into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (S.A.) on 31 March 1941. He served on Nelson as part of the Malta and North Atlantic convoys with further service on the North Africa landings before serving in the Burma theatre with landings at Rangoon and Bombardment of Japanese islands. Mackintosh was discharged on 10 December 1945. His full medal entitlement was a 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star with North Africa 1942-43 clasp, Burma Star with Pacific clasp, War Medal 1939-45, Africa Service Medal, it notes that a War Medal 1939-45 was reissued in 1957.

Derek Nelson Kemack served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (S.A.) from 1 July 1935 but was transferred to the War Reserve Section on 30 June 1939. He attested on 1 February 1940. He was awarded a Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1945 and was discharged on 11 October 1945.

Sydney Marriott Sparks was born in 1906 and was posted to the R.N.V.R. (S.A.) on 1 July 1925, and was later posted to Reserve on 1 July 1929.
