Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (W. H. Woodgate. A.B.), minor contact marks, very fine
William Henry Woodgate was born at St. Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex on 24 March 1862 and enlisted with the rank of Boy Class II on 16 January 1878. Reaching his majority with Raleigh on 24 March 1880 he saw service on several vessels, being advanced Able Seaman with Alexandra on 18 August 1884.
Soon afterwards Woodgate joined Monarch for the Nile Flotilla which he served in during the Nile Expedition. Returning to Britain in 1886 he was discharged on 8 April 1890; sold together with copied service papers.
