From India, they were sent to Natal in January 1881 where they remained until late December of that year. While still in Natal, Ward transferred to the 14th Hussars in December just days before he was once again sent to India. He was stationed in India until February 1883, after which point he returned home and transferred to the 1st Class Army Reserve in August. Ward was discharged in August 1888 upon the termination of his period of engagement, and intended afterwards to reside in Wellingborough; sold together with copied research.
