South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (987. Corpl. T. Angell. 99th Foot.), nearly extremely fine

Thomas Angell was born at Wroughton, Swindon, Wiltshire in 1858 and enlisted on 7 February 1878 being promoted Corporal in September that same year, two months before they arrived in South Africa. They were part of Colonel Pearson's No. 1 Column and saw action at Nyezane, Eshowe and Gingindlovu, Angell survived these engagements unharmed. He saw further garrison duty in Bermuda, returning to South Africa on 5 March 1881 as a draft of reinforcements in the First Anglo-Boer War, the Regiment saw no action as it ended soon after their arrival. Angell was transferred to the Reserve 1884 and discharged in 1890; sold together with copied service papers and Regimental History.
