India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89 (1607 Private C. Flynn 2nd Bn R. Muns Fus.), evidence of solder around claw, otherwise very fine
Cornelius Flynn was born in 1866 at Millstown, Kerry, Ireland and enlisted on 15 July 1885. He embarked on the iron-hulled troopship Euphrates on 7 September 1886 for service in India. Burma had been annexed by the British early in 1886, but required reinforcements to quell the existing resistance campaign. The 2nd Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers were ordered to Burma to serve as reinforcements of the Upper Burma Field Force.
Flynn was later discharged upon the expiration of his period of service, after which he worked as a labourer in Limerick. However, Flynn reenlisted with the Royal Munster Fusiliers at Tralee on 27 February 1899. From 16 June 1899, Flynn joined the special services section for service abroad with the regular forces, but was absent from an embodiment of his battalion in early May 1900, and was struck off as an absentee later that month.
