Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Goojerat, Chilianwala (Trumpr W. H. Smith. 14th Lt Dragns), light contact marks and edge bruising throughout, otherwise very fine

Brigadier Pope's Cavalry Brigade was thrown into confusion during the Battle of Chilianwala, when the Brigadier ordered a charge over rough ground followed by a sudden order to withdraw. As a Trumpeter, Smith would likely have echoed these orders to his own Regiment whose response to the confused situation was to rout from the field.

A Trumpeter, William Henry Smith was serving with the 14th Light Dragoons at Meerut in 1851 with the service number 1207. He was still serving during the Indian Mutiny with the rank of Trumpet Major; sold together with copied medal roll.
