Waterloo 1815 (John Compton, 10th Royal Reg. Hussars.), original clip suspension is slightly loose, tape residue on riband, toning, contact wear, edge bruising with edge knocks, otherwise very fine

John Compton appears on the Waterloo Medal Roll as 'Jno. Compton', serving with the 10th Royal Hussars in Captain Charles Wood's Troop No. 5. On that famous day in June 1815, the 10th Hussars formed part of the 6th Cavalry Brigade led by Major General Sir Hussey Vivian. They charged both the French cavalry and infantry, with one such charge being the subject of a contemporary painting by military artist Denis Dighton. By the end of the Battle, the 10th Hussars had suffered a total of 94 casualties. After Waterloo, the Regiment was in Paris for a year as part of the Army of Occupation; sold together with copied Medal Roll.
