William Thomas Haig Godwin was born in 1916 and enlisted into the General Service Corps on 30 April 1932, transferring to the Royal Tank Corps. He served in India between 11 November 1937 and 29 April 1940 and served in the Middle East from 30 October 1940 until 7 April 1941 when he was then taken Prisoner of War. Godwin served in Italy between 8 April 1941 and 5 November 1943 when he was repatriated, then serving in North West Europe from 4 October 1944 until 12 December 1945, returning home he was then discharged from the Army on 8 April 1946. Godwin enlisted into the Territorial Army on 13 May 1949 at Exeter and was discharged at his own request on 3 October 1952.
