William Gordon Camidge was born on 19 February 1899 and entered the Royal Navy on 15 February 1917, he served on Temeraire from 18 September 1917 - 15 January 1919. Apllying for Submarine service on 29 May 1919 he does not seem to have pursued this. By 1926 he was a Lieutenant "Observer" serving on Eagle and by this time had passed an Aerial Photography course. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on 8 June 1930 and was serving on Courageous. At the outbreak of the Second World War he was serving on Peregrine before moving to Daedalus on 1 October 1940. Camidge retired with the rank of Commander in 1945.
