(x) Pair: Private P. Jones, East Lancashire Regiment, who was taken prisoner of war at Shell Trap Farm during the Second Battle of Ypres

British War and Victory Medals (14806 Pte. P. Jones. E. Lan. R.), good very fine (2)

Peter Jones was born at Liverpool on 23 December 1873 and entered the war in France on 11 December 1914 (1914-15 Star). He was present with the Battalion during the Second Battle of Ypres and was in on the action on 13 May which saw them fight their way through to the beleaguered garrison of Shell Trap Farm. The Battalion dug in around the position but were assailed by a major counter attack the next day which resulted in German troops entering the farm, reinforcements from the South Lancashire Regiment stabilised the situation.

This came too late for Jones who was taken prisoner on 14 May 1915 and transported to Minden. He was repatriated after the war and demobilised on 25 February 1919.
