(x) Three: Captain O. T. Macklem, Cyclist Battalion, 2nd Canadian Division

1914-15 Star (Lieut: O. T. Macklem. 2/Can: Div: Cyc:); British War and Victory Medals (A. Capt. O. T. Macklem.), good very fine (3)

Oliver Tiffany Macklem was a scion of the Macklems of Chippawa. He was descended James Macklem, who emigrated to North America from Ireland, settling in Chippawa in 1790. An economic and manufacturing force to be reckoned with, generations of Macklems owned and operated the “Chippawa Steam Foundry” (managed and run by Oliver Tiffany Macklem, elder brother of the children’s father, James Smith Macklem), “Chippawa Distillery”, a line of steamboats crossing the Niagara River, the local branch of the Bank of Upper Canada, a tannery, and the local dry goods store/post office. There were very few Chippawa institutions the family did not have a hand in establishing or running.

He became Department Head of Civil Engineering at the Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, before retiring in 1938; sold together with his Upper Canada Agricultural Association Life Members' silver Medal, engraved 'O. T. Macklem'.

For his cap Badge, please see Lot 910.
