General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Iraq (Capt. R. E. Godfrey.), very fine

Richard Edgar Godfrey was born on 13 December 1894 at Denmark Hill, London. With the outbreak of the Great War he enlisted into the ranks (No. 3051) of the 2nd Battalion, 24th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (The Queen's) and served in France from 29 June 1915 (1915 Trio). Having been commissioned into the 11th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, Godfrey was then posted to the Indian Army and joined the 3rd Battalion, 153rd Punjabis (Rifles) in November 1917. Having earned a 'mention' (London Gazette 5 June 1919, refers), he served in Iraq as Captain and was Adjutant by 1922; sold together with copied research.
