James Crookston enlisted on 15 October 1906, he first served overseas in France on 19 December 1914 and is entitled to a 1914-15 Star Trio. He served with the 171st Tunneling Company of the Royal Engineers, with whom he won his Military Medal, and he is entitled to a Silver War Badge (99649). He was discharged on 23 December 1918.
