Terence Beale Nesbitt was born at Belfast on 8 August 1897 and educated at Royal Academy, Belfast, the Choir School of American Church, Paris and lastly Elstow School, Bedford. He enlisted at the outbreak of war in August 1914 as a Gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery and was subsequently commissioned Second Lieutenant on 6 February 1915, The Dorset Regiment. He left with a draft of the Regiment in January 1916 and was wounded at the Battle of Sanna-i-Yat on 21 - 22 April 1916. Sadly, he succumbed to his wounds onboard the steamer going to Basra dying on 24 April 1916. He is commemorated at the Basra Memorial.

His commanding officer wrote, 'He was well in front of his men and was gallantly leading them when he was hit. He was very popular with us all and is very greatly missed. He was hit soon after leaving the trenches but refused the offer of help from one of his men, leading his men to within 100 yards of the enemy trenches, where he fell, by which time 15 out of the 16 officers in the charge and nearly every man out of the trenches were put out of action.'
