Military Mail
1825 (13 Oct.) entire letter written from "Camp at Pegu" and addressed to Exeter, showing various rate marks, Calcutta G.P.O. (21.11) c.d.s. and, on reverse, framed "india letter/deal". Interesting contents about the strong resistance on the attack at Pegu include "...The principal loss fell on the division in front of us when the men carrying the ladders were knocked down by the destructive fire of the entrenched enemy... ". A few faults including creasing, repairing and a small part of the back missing, nevertheless an incredible testimony of war. A fine cover from the First Burmese War, 1824-26. Photo
