Only 858 medals were struck in gold by the Royal Mint to mark the Coronation of Queen Anne in 1702, of which 518 were presented to Members of Parliament. Much like the allegory of Una and the Lion for Queen Victoria,Anne's personification as Pallas, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Useful Arts and Prudent Warfare proved the perfect allegory for a nascent British Empire concentrating on the global stage.
