South Africa: Van Wyk's Gold Mining Company Limited, £1 shares, 188[9], #A760, issued to and signed by Sir Abe Bailey, ornate border, black. Sir Abe Bailey (1864-1940), diamond magnate and 'Randlord'. Imprisoned after the Jameson Raid but released on payment of a heavy fine. Founded South African Townships, with Julius Jeppe, in Union Parliament 1915-24, created Baronet in 1919. He was to become one of the worlds richest men by the 1930's. The company owned Mines at Luipard's Vlei, Witwatersrand. VF and rare.
