South Africa: Alpine Gold Mining Co. Ltd., with rare signature. £1 shares, 188[6], #1878, issued to Harry Barnato and signed on his behalf on the reverse by Woolf Joel, black, adhesive revenue stamp. Harry Barnato, older brother and business partner of the more famous Barney Barnato. Woolf Joel, 1863-1898, nephew of the Barnato brothers, worked with them on the diamond fields. Murdered in his office by Baron von Veltheim for supposedly refusing to assist in the kidnap of President Kruger. VF and rare signature.
