(x) Egypt: Heliopolis Palace Hotel de Caire, 'action de dividende', 1909, #3181, large vignette of the hotel at top, green and black, with coupons. Opened in 1911 and advertised as the most luxurious hotel in the world. The 500 room building was used during both world wars as a military hospital. After the war and the increase in cheap tourism the hotel could not compete with modern hotels and it was abandoned only to be used briefly as Government offices. However it was turned into the Presidential palace by President Mubarak and has a new lease of life! VF.
