(x) China: Tsingtao Grand Hotel KK, 10 shares of 50 yen, Taisho 9 (1920), company monogram at top, ornate border, text in English and Japanese, brown. Chinese Territory leased to Germany for 99 years from 1897 but it passed to Japan when the Japanese declared war on Germany in 1914. The Japanese held the territory until it reverted to China in 1922 but the Japanese still had a strong position in the region. They occupied it again in 1938 until 1945. This Japanese company is long gone but the Hotel building was still standing in 2009. EF.
