Great Britain: Raleigh Cycle Company Limited, £1 ordinary shares, 18[98], #1499, company logo in scrollwork at left, black. Registered 4th March 1896 as a reconstruction of a company of the same name based in Nottingham. The Raleigh name was first used by Woodhead and Angois in 1885 and the first Raleigh Cycle Company was registered in 1889 and controlled by Frank Bowden (later Sir Frank Bowden). The company was reorganised under the same name several times and by 1913 had become the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world. This company was liquidated and reorganised in 1899. VF and rare.
