Great Britain: Aire & Calder Navigation, a pair of manuscript documents, 1721, regarding the transfer of £80 of stock from John Buxton to Richard and William Norfolk as trustees for Anne Meager, a minor. Handsigned by the Norfolks. With impressed revenue stamps. The canalization of both Rivers Aire and Calder was authorised by Act of Parliament in 1699 and opened in 1704, a distance of 34 miles. Enlarged over the years and remained profitable for most of the time carrying coal. Now used mostly for leisure but much petroleum and gravel is still moved by canal. Thought to be the oldest available paper relating to a River Navigation in the world of scripophily! VF and of course unique in its content. (2).
