(x) Australia Service Medal 1939-45 (VX38143 C. V. Ridout) good very fine
Charles Vincent Ridout was born at Clifton Hill, Victoria on 12 July 1903 and enlisted at Melbourne on 23 July 1940, being posted to the 2/11 Field Regiment. Serving in Australia for the duration of the war he was commissioned Lieutenant on 20 January 1942. After this Ridout served with various infantry units, mostly the 38th Battalion before transferring to the 36th Employment Company in 1944.
At this point he suffered a series of injuries in the line of duty, notably on 17 October 1944 when the jeep he was in flipped over. An inquest cleared the driver of wrongdoing but it was not to be the last time. The end of the war saw Ridout still in service when on 27 May 1946 he missed while cutting wood and fractured his right big toe with an axe. Given his injury prone record himself it is perhaps a good thing that he was soon discharged on 20 September 1946.
Further entitled to the War Medal 1939-45.
