British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. W. H. G. Lowther. R.A.F.), contact wear overall, nearly very fine

William Hugh Gerard Lowther was born on 4 January 1886 and enlisted as a Private with the 23rd (Sportsmans) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers with the number 1687 during the Great War. Entering the war in France on 16 November 1915, he served there until being Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 23 July 1917, whence he joined the Royal Flying Corps.

Posted to the 16th Wing at Salonica on 26 December 1917, Lowther remained there until September when he was invalided from service due to ill health with the rank of Lieutenant. His M.I.C. notes the application for a 1914 Star, however this was rejected.

Further entitled to the 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal 1914-1919.
