Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1902 (9804 Sapr: H. Martin. R.E.), minor contact wear, very fine
Horace Martin was born at Plumsted, Woolwich and worked as a Bricklayer prior to attesting with the Royal Engineers on 1 October 1901. Posted to South Africa with the 37th Field Company on 1 May 1902 he was to serve there for the rest of the Boer War and remained in the country afterwards, being transferred to the 47th Field Company at some stage before 1904. Martin left South Africa on 23 September 1904 and after a year in Britain was posted to the Malta Garrison where he served between 24 September 1907-21 November 1908. Again returning to Britain he served there until his discharge on 30 September 1913.
