Three: Private F. W. Jones, 1/4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, who was twice severely wounded in action

Frederick William Jones was born at Aldringham, Leiston, Suffolk in 1890 and served with the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Suffolk Regiment though he had left by the outbreak of the Great War. Enlisting with commendable speed on 29 August 1914 he was posted to the 4th Battalion and entered the war in France on 8 November.

Serving here until he was seriously wounded in the left arm on 15 May 1915. Returning to Britian to recover he was back in France on 25 November 1915. Again wounded, this time in the left heel and ankle on 23 April 1917 Jones was taken to No. 96 Field Ambulance and from there to No. 47 General Hospital.

These wounds finally got the better of him and he was taken from active service, being posted to the Regimental Depot. From their he joined the Labour Corps but did not see foreign service again. Jones was finally demobilised on 18 March 1919, he is listed as being entitled to one red wound chevron and one blue wound chevron.
