Four: Flight Sergeant I. B. Stavert, No. 48 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who was killed in action flying from Gibraltar on 21 January 1944

Ian Brownlie Stavert was born in South Africa in 1916, the son of John and Jessie Stavert of Longcroft, Stirlingshire. On the death of his father Stavert's mother returned the family to Longcroft, Scotland where he was educated at Denay Higher Grade School, here he was known as a keen rugby player. Working at James Dougall & Sons, firebrick manufacturer Stavert join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was sent to Canada for training.

Completing his training he was posted to Gibraltar with No. 48 Squadron, flying Lockheed Hudson's on coastal patrols. Stavert's Lockeed- listed in the operations records book as T/EW.897- went missing on the night of 20-21 January 1944. It is believed to have crashed into the sea west of the Straits of Gibraltar. He is commemorated upon the Runnymede Memorial; sold together with copied research including Commonwealth War Graves certificate, a blog post entitled Lockheed Hudson, 48 Squadron, an extract from the Operations Record Book for that unit and a number of newspaper extracts.
