1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with two named Flying Log Books, good very fine (4)

A. G. Scarlett was serving as a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in 1941 when he applied for flying training and began to fly at No. 25 Elementary Flying Training School on 16 October 1941. His first flight took place on 3 November 1941 and he was noted as showing 'aptitude as a Pilot Navigator'. Scarlett was withdrawn from Flying Training on 24 December 1941 at No. 21 Service Flying Training School.

His next Log Book, a S.A.A.F. Observers/Air Gunners Log Book opens on 2 March 1942, where Scarlett was flying Fairley Battles and Ansons with No. 41 Air School. Promoted Pilot Officer he was advanced Flying Officer on 27 December 1942. Posted to 547 Squadron in January 1944, he was flying anti-submarine patrols starting on 15 March with 'B' Flight. At this time the unit was conducting patrols over the Bay of Biscay, and Scarlett's performance was clearly good as he was promoted Flight Lieutenant on 27 June 1944.

He continued flying operational patrols until May 1945 at which point he transferred to the 4th Operational Training Unit as an instructor. Scarlett resigned his commission on 24 July 1947; sold together with copied research including London Gazette entries and 547 Squadron Operations Record Book as well as a small archive of original material comprising:
