The uniquely named 'Cambrai 1917' death plaque to Private P. A. Lake, 'D' Company, 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment
Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (Percy Albert Lake), good very fine
Percy Albert Lake was born at Hove, Sussex, the son of Eli and Clara Lake, of 103 Wordsworth Street, Hove. Enlisting at Hove he was posted to the 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Stationed with this unit in the Cambrai Sector in November 1917 he was present with them in the reserve trenches when a German counter-attack broke through the front. The Battalion drew up defensive positions on their reserve line and held there through 30 November and into 1 December under fierce bombing attacks and shelling. Lake was killed on the first day of fighting and is commemorated upon the Cambrai Memorial, Louveral.
