Victory Medal 1914-19 (28627 Pte. S. A. Guilbridge. [SIC] 16-Can. Inf.), good very fine
Samual Arthur Guilbride was born at Wexford, Ireland on 4 July 1884 and worked as a surveyor prior to enlisting at Valcartier on 23 September 1914. Posted to 'A' Company, 16th Battalion, Canadian Infantry and embarked for France on 1 April 1915. Guilbride was unlucky to be taken prisoner in one of the first actions he was involved in, only six weeks after his embarkation on 14 May 1915 he was listed as 'missing'. Later confirmed a prisoner of war he was held at Hagen, German but reported to have been interned at Beau Site, Laysin, Switzerland on 1 September 1916. He remained there for the rest of the war before being repatriated on 10 December 1918.
