The Victory Medal awarded to D.C.M. winner Company Sergeant-Major G. W. Wood, 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment who later died of wounds on 11 November 1917

[D.C.M.] London Gazette 4 March 1918, the original citation states:

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of his company after all the officers had become casualties. He led the attack on the second objective, sorted out and reorganised the men of several units, and held the position during the next forty-eight hours against two counter-attacks.

George William Wood (Woods) was born at enlisted at Lincoln, the stepson of Mrs. E. Woods, of Brant Broughto, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Entering the war at Gallipoli on 18 July 1915 he served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment for the rest of the war. Not long after his D.C.M. winning action he died of wounds and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery; sold together with typed research, Commonwealth War Graves certificate and M.I.C. as well as a citation and an extract from The History of the Lincolnshire Regiment.
