Victory Medal 1914-19 (Lieut. F. J. Fisher), good very fine

The only medal so named to a Lieutenant.

Frederick James Fisher was born at Wigginton, Tring, Hertfordshire on 28 October 1884, the son of a Police Sergeant. He lived at 46 Glenco Road, Bushley, Hertfordshire, working as a Colour Printer prior to his enlistment for service in the Great War. Attesting on 10 December 1915 at Watford with the Royal Field Artillery he received the service number 26779. Mobilised for service with 3/4th Royal Field Artillery on 20 May 1916 he was soon transferred to the Infantry, joining the 3rd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment on 24 June.

Fischer applied for a commission and was accepted to No. 17 Officer Cadet Battalion at Kinmel, Park Royal on 3 January 1917, being later commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 14 May. Posted to the 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, a unit which saw heavy fighting during the final years of the war. Notably there were present at Passchendeale, St. Quentin and during the Hundred Days. Fisher was demobilised on 23 January 1919 at Purfleet; sold together with a copied M.I.C. and a typed copy of the recipient's service papers prior to his commission.
